<PISAgro warmly welcomes UTZ as our new member. UTZ is a label and program for the sustainable production of agricultural products worldwide like coffee, cocoa and tea. Their aim is to create a world where sustainable farming is the norm, where farmers implement good agricultural practices and manage their farms profitably with respect for people and the planet, and where industry invests in sustainable production and consumers can enjoy and trust the products they buy. Through their certification program they provide training and support to farmers in good agricultural practices and farm management.

UTZ has become the largest certification program for sustainable coffee in the world (9% of global coffee production). In cocoa, UTZ contributing to 13% of the total cocoa produced in the world. Some large amount of these certified commodities come from Indonesia.

The UTZ certified coffee plantations in Indonesia are spread from Aceh, North Sumatera, Lampung, South Sulawesi, and East Java. In cocoa, UTZ certified cocoa beans were produced from plantations that are concentrated in South Sulawesi, West Java, Bali, North Sumatera, Central Sulawesi, South East Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, West Sumatera, Lampung, and Aceh.

Within the Partnership, UTZ is already involved in Swisscontact’s sustainable cocoa program and has engaged with other private sectors players in the Cocoa and Coffee WG, including with NGOs like Kalimajari, Sahabat Cipta. VECO etc.

Why does UTZ join PISAgro?

UTZ joins PISAgro to strengthen network and effort in supporting good agricultural practices and farm management especially in the coffee and cocoa sector, by sharing the common values and synergizing strategy among members.

What targets does UTZ wish to achieve by joining PISAgro?

Within the partnership, UTZ targets are to increase farmer’s productivity and income by applying the good agricultural practices and farm management. Through collaboration with other members in PISAgro, UTZ has confidence that the efforts would be much more effective and could cover many more farmers in Indonesia.
